I moved your post to its own "thread." To ask a question you normally create a new thread for your question by clicking on the new thread button at the upper left corner of a forum (discussion area).

There is a database of Illinois serial numbers. I will let one of the other members answer for your specific watch.

I can tell you according to the database it's a size 6 grade 144 with 15 jewels and hunter case configuration made in 1893. It seems it's relatively rare with less than 3000 being made, but these smaller watches don't seem to be as collectible as their larger 18s or 16s counterparts.

    Hi philand01:

Towards the top (but not at the top) of the American Pocket Watch Message Board page, there is a button on the left-hand side labeled "New Thread" which can be used to start a new thread to ask a question unrelated to the other threads that are current.

Anyway, using the references listed in the Illinois Watch Company wiki article, serial number 1,209,403 can be seen to be a grade No. 144, 15-jewel, 6-size ladies watch movement, made in about 1893. There were not quite 3,000 of these made between 1886 and 1894, which makes it an uncommon movement. This was an expensive watch, as can be seen on an 1887 Catalog Sheet.

The watch case was sold separately from the movement, put together at the time of sale by the jeweler selling the watch. If you can post the trade mark or name(s) stamped into the back of the case, we may be able to tell you something about it.
